MISS UNIVERSE CANADA 2011 CONTESTANT - Anna McKenzie

Name: Anna McKenzie

Age: 21 | Height: 5’5″ | Calgary, AB

Anna McKenzie is a passionate, ambitious young woman who was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Originally a Freelance Makeup Artist, she decided to go back to University in order to follow her dreams of giving back to her Aboriginal community.

She was inspired to participate in this year’s pageant from the Young Entrepreneur Symposium for Aboriginal youth, which took place this past November in Vancouver 2010.

Anna believes that by participating in Miss Universe Canada 2011, she can open doors for First Nations youth across Canada, and to inspire them to go beyond their limitations to achieve happiness and success. Anna is very proud of her Cree heritage and to be a member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation.

She is currently attending the University of Calgary in the A.S.A.P Program (Aboriginal Students Access Program), working towards her BA in Political Science, and eventually a degree in Law. She is also a member of the First Nations Student Association as the Financial Executive.

Anna is also the director of P.A.S.S (Peer Assistant to Student Service). In this role, she coordinates events for Aboriginal students at the University of Calgary to participate in to promote student enrolment and to connect students to support systems within the university.

Anna is also an N.A.P.I Ambassador (Native Ambassador Post-Secondary Initiative) where she facilitates motivational speeches to First Nations youth. In her speeches, she focuses on the effects of bullying and her experiences when she was younger. Lastly, she is a member of the Aboriginal Student Policy Standing Committee at the University of Calgary.

Anna’s interests include photography, sewing, painting, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and spending time with her Pitbull Terrier, Boston.

Name: Andreanne De Lasalle

Age: 21 | Height: 5’10″ | Mascouche, QC

Andréanne is a very ambitious girl who just turned 21 years old and is in her final year of Law School. She is a very natural, intelligent, and charismatic young woman who has a great passion for travelling. For a job, she is a model and is also currently working in an animal shelter.

She is very interested in human rights and the environment. She is known for her personality and for being down to earth. Her family is a very important part of her life. She has been an athlete her whole life and she tries to live the most balanced and healthy lifestyle. Her hobbies also include art and music. As a natural role model she has the potential to influence many people.

Name: Anastasia Florin

Age: 26 | Height: 5’9″ | Richmond Hill, ON

An award winning Ballroom Dancer and Choreographer, Model and Fashion Designer, Anastasia is an advocate for a healthy and active lifestyle. She loves life and wishes to inspire other people to believe in themselves.

Anastasia began dancing at the age of 5 and were four times World and European Formation Champion, and has represented Canada as a professional since 2006.
Anastasia loves to share her expertise and enthusiasm of Ballroom Dancing and is now teaching dance classes in GTA.

Anastasia co-founded Dancestyle Inc. which owns and operates a fashion boutique and e-commerce website. With her passion for beauty and fashion, she is now currently designing her own line of ballroom gowns.

Name: Alyshea Surani

Age: 21 | Height: 5’7″ | Calgary, AB

Alyshea Surani was born in Calgary, Alberta. She has won many speech tournaments including a Kiwanis Festival gold for solo acting and had the privilege of planning the concert for Academy Award winning artist A.R. Rahman in Vancouver.

She is an experienced Bollywood dancer, an avid singer, and models for Alberta Fashion Week.

Completing a Bachelor of Science at the University of Calgary, her dream is to create a publication promoting fashion and health, combining her love for style, and her science background.

Having travelled to developing nations around the world, Alyshea believes a strong sense of hope can create a brighter future for us all.
